TERRAZZA DELLA FEMMINA
overview
Located on the northern coast of Sicily, this villa offers the potential for breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea—visible only from select points and elevations on the property. With sunset vistas stretching toward the renowned Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve and the lighthouse of San Vito Lo Capo, the design was driven by a desire to fully capitalize on the elevated vantage point of the primary suite.
Drawing inspiration from the local mountain range above, known as “La Femmina Morta” (The Dead Woman), the silhouette of a reclining female figure is clearly visible from the bedroom perfectly outlined by the light steel frame structure with local bamboo reeds. An elevated outdoor living space extends directly from the suite, offering a tranquil retreat and uninterrupted panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Below, the expanded living area includes an alfresco dining space with an integrated sofa, a wine bar, and a generous open-air shower—perfect for rinsing off after a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean.

Process
A locally sourced Mediterranean cane that grows wild in the area, known as cannucciatta by the locals, was incorporated into the external framed structure as a simple and effective shading solution. Commonly used throughout the region, this natural material provides privacy and form while allowing the cool sea breeze to flow through. Its organic texture contrasts with the crisp white concrete surfaces, creating a soft visual enclosure that enhances the tranquility of the interior space.
